On Monday, November 12th, the Mid-Isle U18 Mariners played a friendly against the Nanaimo United Over-45’s. There was some quality footy up and down the pitch!
The Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners women’s soccer team has captured first place in the Provincial regular-season standings, and will play in the Gold Medal Provincial Championship game this coming Saturday, October 27th at Capilano College in Burnaby.
The VIU team – undefeated since September 23rd with 4 wins and 2 draws in their last six games – features five players from Ladysmith who started their athletic careers with the Mid-Isle Soccer Club: Karen Battie, Shea Battie, Georgia Nicholls, and Haven Bouma, as well as Olivia Mazurenko, who was just named Female Soccer Athlete of the Week in the PACWEST conference.
The Gold Medal game starts at Noon on Saturday. Fans can watch the games online, plus get stories, schedules, summaries and more on the official Championship page HERE.
Congratulations to the team on their great season, and GOOD LUCK from Mid-Isle Soccer on Saturday’s game!
The Club has produced a Summer newsletter that’s full of information about the upcoming season:
If you are a returning Mid-Isle Club referee – or you would like to try it out – please contact Club Vice President Jeremy Kaye at email@example.com.
This upcoming season will see a NEW GIRLS-ONLY SOCCER PROGRAM at the Mid-Isle Soccer Club for players aged 5-8 (born 2010-2013). The program will feature fun 3-on-3 games on Saturdays at Forrest Field during the regular Pony Soccer time slot (specific time TBD). Girl Power players will also get to train together as a group on Monday nights at the Club’s (free!) Development Sessions. The season starts in September and runs to March.
This program is voluntary and optional – if your daughter wants to run with the boys, she can run with the boys. But if you want a different way to introduce your girl to soccer, team sports, and fun on the field, GIRL POWER might be the program for you!
REGISTER BEFORE JUNE 30 to confirm your spot in the program and avoid late registration fees! Every girl in the 5-8 year-old age group that registers will be contacted during the summer and asked if they want to participate in the Girl Power program. More information will be forthcoming at that time.
About 1,000 soccer players aged 7-10 ( plus their families) descended on Ladysmith last weekend for the annual Upper Island Soccer Association’s Mini World Cup event. Games between “nations” were played on 21 fields at 6 different venues around town. In all, between 3,500-4,000 guests were treated to sunshine, soccer, and Mid-Isle Soccer Club hospitality. Many thanks to the many volunteers who pitched in to make this event another classic!
Drop-In Spring Soccer kicked off last night at Forrest Field and was a rousing success, with over two dozen Club players participating!!
Scrimmage with your buddies while the tunes are blasting!
$5 drop-in fee, every Thursday at Forrest Field from 7:00-8:30pm
The Mid-Isle Soccer Club’s U13 Mariner Girls put on a heck of a show at the November 9th CCAA Nationals Semi-Final game, in front of hundreds of soccer fans!
WELL DONE, LADIES!
Even better – the VIU Mariners won the game 6-1 to advance to the National Championship game!
We couldn’t ask for a better representative of our Club than a big black-and-white cat that hangs out at Forrest Field. Therefore, WE ARE VERY PROUD TO INTRODUCE…
T.K. (he wears #9, because nine lives) will pop up here and there at special Club events – you can even march with him in the Light Up Parade this year! Give him a high five when you see him!
Ringleader Kevin Kurylowich and the Mid-Isle U13 Mariner Girls worked their buns off at the recent Ladysmith Days Fun Fair at Aggie Field!! In just a few hours, the team’s hot dog sale raised over $850 towards their tournament fund, and the girls had a GREAT time representing our Club!
Many thanks to the team parents who pitched in, and a special thank you to Wendy Battie and the 49th Parallel Grocery store for the opportunity!
