Pacific Football Club is a brand new Canadian professional soccer club based on Vancouver Island, in Langford, BC. The club will compete in the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural 2019 season, and play its home games at Westhills Stadium.
Pacific Football Club is the only professional sports team on Vancouver Island, and they are proud to represent the WHOLE Island. With that in mind, they have reached out to us, and would like to work with the Mid Isle Soccer Club!
PACIFIC FC COACHES TO VISIT MID-ISLE SOCCER CLUB on MONDAY, NOV 19th.
Pacific FC Coaches will attend both the 5:30 and the 6:45 sessions of our Monday Development Night on November 19th. During the first (5:30-6:30) session, the PFC coaches will work with one or two groups of our young players. The Merriman coaches on our Club Technical Team will cover coaching the other groups on the field, so that all of our Pony and Girl Power Coaches can watch the PFC session and chat with the PFC coaches.
At 6:30, the PFC Coaches will hold a brief information and Q&A session, talking to players, parents and coaches about the franchise and the upcoming Canadian Premier League, which kicks off in 2019. We will have some Tim Hortons coffee and hot chocolate at this time. We would like any coaches from the later (6:45) session to arrive early and attend this “halftime” session as well.
During the later (6:45) Monday time slot, the PFC coaches will run a session with our U16-18 Tier 3 Boys team – again, at this session, Bill Merriman and our Club Technical Team will handle the other groups on the field, so that our Club Coaches can watch the PFC session.
This is a very exciting opportunity for our Club, and for our Coaches to see how a professional team runs a training session. James Merriman (Bill’s son) is the Assistant Coach of the new Pacific FC franchise, and will be spearheading the session at Forrest Field. Jamie has been coaching with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC organization for the past few years; before that he was an Assistant Coach with Simon Fraser University, as well as three seasons coaching on the Island at VIU. In his time coaching collegiately, the two programs combined to win four conference titles, made two NCAA Final Four appearances, and won a CCAA national championship, compiling an overall record of 64W-11L-9D.
It’s an exciting time for soccer on Vancouver Island, and Pacific FC wants the Mid-Isle Soccer Club to be a part of it!
